Consultation on Welsh Drainage Standards

by on November 10, 2011

The Welsh Government is inviting views on how water and sewerage undertakers will adopt new sewers and lateral drains following the Private Sewers Transfer on 1 October 2011.

The consultation includes mandatory adoption arrangements for new foul sewers and lateral drains and Mandatory Build Standards for new gravity foul sewers and lateral drains and will run until 23 January 2012. It is a response to Section 42 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.

On the consultation webpage the Welsh Government states that it will work with Defra to ensure consistency across England and Wales. The consultation document can also be downloaded by following the link above.

The requirements do not apply to surface water which is covered by Schedule 3, Sustainable Drainage, of the Flood and Water Management Act.

The new-build mandatory standards are intended to cover all aspects of design, construction, operation and maintenance of gravity foul sewers and lateral drains. They will also be consistent with Sewers for Adoption 7th Edition, when published.
